CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

 

Aerial Yoga

Allow yourself to experience the freedom of yoga in the air! Beautiful colored hammocks will be used to support your body in all the postures you know & love while allowing you to experience New postures too. Come experience something new and unique in our Aerial Yoga classes. This class is a beginners level class.

5 Space available per class.

Beginners Yoga

A gradual introduction to the practices of yoga in a comfortable class setting.  In this class you will learn proper technique and alignment for yoga postures, powerful breathing techniques to influence your mental & emotional state. Perfect for those new to yoga!

Hatha Yoga

Students spend time within each pose finding their breath and feeling the pose in their own body. Special focus is given to proper alignment, modifications are offered allowing anyone from beginners to advanced practitioner can fully appreciate the physical & mental benefits of this traditional yogic practice.

Intermediate Hatha

This steady-paced class invites you to connect with your breath as you focus on refining traditional asanas. Postures are held to encourage alignment, build core-strength, stamina, flexibility & balance.

*Intermediate level asanas will be introduced; including revolved movements, arm balances, inversions (like handstand), and backbends.

Power Flow

A powerful, dynamic & energizing class designed to cultivate strength, flexibility, balance, focus and endurance. This class is based on Baptiste Yoga’s ‘Journey Into Power’ sequence, a series of postures that flow from one to the next linking breath and movement. A Power Yoga class will help to anchor your mind in the present moment, unlock your hidden potential for achieving authentic personal power, and to live your extraordinary life with greater self-awareness. Modifications and variations are encouraged to support and accommodate individual needs, bodies, and experience levels. Prior Yoga experience is a plus for this class!

Reiki Restorative

A Reiki infused space, with yoga props, students are guided into restorative postures. The 5-7 minutes in each pose allows the body to release, shifting into the parasympathetic nervous system. Hands-on Reiki may be applied to each student during final savasana (relaxation) pose if they choose. Open to students of all abilities. Wonderful balance to a busy day & fast-paced life!

Feldenkrais

Awareness Through Movement

Feldenkrais® group classes are known as Awareness Through Movement® (ATM®) lessons. Similar to  gentle yoga, Awareness Through Movement classes use slow, mindful movements to achieve powerful effects in terms of strength, flexibility, and holistic integration of body and mind. Unique to the Feldenkrais Method® of somatic education is that these lessons tie directly into functional movements of daily life, such as walking efficiently, safely lifting objects, and improving one’s posture in sitting or standing.

Heartfulness Meditation

Fridays 11am-noon

In 2019 weekly Friday Meditations have been offered through the Journey Yoga Studio. In 2020, the approach in this class is to delve into the wisdom of the Ashtanga tradition of classical yoga as established by Patanjali in his Yoga Sutras and the Eight Limbs of Yoga. Each limb of Yoga compliments the rest.

Together we'll cycle through each of the 8 Limbs every 8 weeks. First, we'll meditate then we'll take 20-25 minutes to read and discuss selected passages that participants bring to each class.   Special emphasis will be on how the limbs lead to the ultimate goal of Yoga, i.e. union.

Welcome to Journey!

 

I am grateful & blessed for the inspiration and evolution that is Journey Yoga Studio since September 1, 2015.

My passion is to help others attune to their own body, mind, and spirit. By listening to our inner voice, we are better able to heal ourselves from the inside out. This mindset is embodied in the way I teach class. By learning to trust our inner knowing we can constantly Be growing in infinite directions. Expansion is a beautiful thing!

I am the mother to a beautiful little girl who fills my life and heart with love and compassion, who challenges me to grow everyday, to constantly strive to be a better version of myself, and who reminds me to laugh a lot! I also enjoy my career as a Massage Therapist & Energy Worker. I love the unique co-creation that happens in each session with every client. In all areas of my life, these pieces come together to create healing and connections with those I am thankful to call my clients and myself. I have stopped trying to keep them separate and allow the universe to blend them together for the best and highest of each person I work with. Entering 2020, I am embarking on the Journey of my 300 hour Yoga Teacher Training. I have no doubt it will be an amazing Transformation!

Restorative, Hatha

I love to see a yoga practice relieve stress and create deep relaxation. I love teaching to create a supportive community and hold a safe space for students to grow physically, mentally, emotionally & spiritually.

My 200hr Yoga Certification is in Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin & Restorative. My specialty is in Restorative Yoga, the practice of deep relaxation with many deeply healing benefits to the body's nervous system. Although I have to say I love to practice all styles of yoga and enjoy all of their benefits. 

I came to yoga later in life at the age of 50. During menopause, I lost my sense of balance. Yoga helped me with balance and so much more... flexibility, de-stress techniques, finding stillness while looking inward. I have learned how to look forward in a beautiful way.

 

I am the mother of 3 incredible adult children, 8 sweet grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. My passion is health and wellness. For many years, I have studied and used herbs/ spices for myself and my family. I have greatly enjoyed exploring my path leading me to become an Herbalist, Founder & Formulator of Lavender and Roses Clearly Holistic Beauty, Reiki Master & practitioner and  200hr Certified Yoga Teacher.

Kristine Hill

Hatha - Restorative

I have challenged myself all of my life with various forms of fitness, from running, group fitness classes, to hiking and swimming. I managed health clubs early in my career and taught several group fitness classes, but it wasn’t until 14 years later I took my first yoga class that would become my lifelong passion; Yin, Hatha, Vinyasa and Restorative I love them all!!
In my class you’ll find healing of the body, mind and spirit with themed classes that start slow then peak and relax at the end. You will also learn about the moon phases, essential oils and the Chakras.
I am a 500 hr Certified Yoga Teacher, certified sound healer & certified in advanced modifications. I am also a Reiki Master, attuning my 1st class in 2018, and utilize this in Restorative classes. 
I am married to the love of my life, have 3 children and co own an HVAC company. I am filled with gratitude to be able to do what I love and share this gift with everyone I know!!

Susan Houck

Power Yoga Teacher

Hello! I’m Susan Houck and I absolutely love teaching in this beautiful community of Richmond, Indiana.

Yoga has been vital in my healing journey; I have walked away from it, come back to it, refused to look at it, and finally surrendered to the imperfections of my practice to find exactly what I need in the moment. Stepping onto my mat some days to have a good healthy cry is all I can do. Sometimes I practice handstand (still working on that one) for the challenge because I need to prove to myself that I can overcome an obstacle. Other days, simply practicing silencing my mind and drawing my senses inward comes with the most reward and greatest healing.

My favorite part of being a yoga instructor is witnessing the many breakthroughs my students have on and off their mat. While I’m not always able to be a witness to these moments I enjoy being able to hold space for them to unfold in their own time.
In my class I want you to feel accepted, connected, safe, and supported. Yoga is about so much more than the physical postures (Asanas) and there’s no requirement to be flexible. There’s a variation for every single body and I’d be happy to help figure out what works for you!

A bit more about me, I primarily teach a Vinyasa style of yoga; Power Yoga, Unheated Power Flow, and Hot Power Yoga are all terms you may have heard. I fell in love with Power Yoga in 2016 at Evolution Power Yoga in Lancaster, PA. it was an incredible discovery for me! Being a full-time business analyst (day job) means I’m “in my head” a lot, solving problems almost nonstop. The practice challenged me to show up over and over again, to stay present with my body and breath, and to release my busy thoughts. I could exist as a whole, not just in my head. I could breathe and move, instead of holding my breath waiting for the corporate world to give permission. I could feel the emotions that came up without having to react. I could release doubt and limitations.
While my yoga relationship has had many twists (and failed attempts at backbends) making the decision to enter a yoga teacher training that taught Power Yoga was LIFE CHANGING. I received my 200 hour training from Ignite Yoga in Dayton, Ohio in 2018 and I began teaching a version of Power Yoga in January 2019!
I enjoy many styles of yoga and do teach a variety of classes, I appreciate how well Power Yoga keeps me on my mat, fully, in the moment. It will always be my first yoga love.

I cannot wait to see how our journeys will grow from here!

Wesley was introduced to yoga in 2014 and became a 200 hour Certified Yoga Teacher in 2017. " Yoga has allowed me to align with my highest Self and given me the the opportunity to show others how to do the same." Her dedication to yoga is reflected through her travels, personal practice and eagerness to teach others. Wesley's classes are playful, distinct, innovative and inspires students to transform on and off the mat.

Hatha Yoga

I started practicing Yoga over 15 years ago as a way to build flexibility and increase my overall health and fitness.  Over the past year, I have come to appreciate the spiritual and emotional aspects and believe Yoga is a crucial element in my self-care.  Yoga has helped me with reducing stress and finding emotional balance.  I love how Yoga provides students with their own unique experience on the mat.  My goal is to guide with an open heart and hold space for my students to grow.  I seek to inspire body-mind connection and to make classes accessible for all levels.  I am looking forward to expanding my knowledge and offerings by becoming a Certified Reiki Practitioner in 2020.

Power Yoga

Yoga has brought so much joy, connection, and fullness to my life that it is difficult to express.  This growth comes after two decades of dabbling with yoga, non-violence, and philosophy while at the same time I was being slowly dismantled by self-doubt, depression, and addiction.  

 

The deep dive toward integration and authenticity began in a power yoga class in January 2019.  The upwelling of joy in that one class was new and fascinating. For the first time in my life, it felt better to sit up straight instead of slouching, and my desire for alcohol was greatly diminished.  By summer, I had signed up for teacher training at Ignite Yoga in Dayton, Ohio, and completed it by December.

 

Training was mostly to develop my own practice, to illuminate a path toward health, happiness, and wholeness.  I am so grateful for the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual lessons I received at Ignite. Most importantly, training helped me reach a greater acceptance of myself and of life’s ebb and flow.  

 

At the same time, the experience at Ignite also gave me the confidence to begin sharing with others what I have learned so far.  Continuing to develop my practice in fellowship with others on this path gives me great pleasure, and I am looking forward to a lifetime of growth.

 

My current asana focus is on power as well as slower vinyasa flow, though I enjoy all styles and intend to add others to my teaching repertoire.  I am also enjoying exploration into the other branches and limbs of yoga, integrating my prior training in non-violence through the Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP), my experience as a high school teacher, my background in legal studies, and my passion for building community.

Feldenkrais Practitioner

My interest in Feldenkrais began in 1997 after my personal experience with dance injuries. I began taking Awareness through Movement lessons and was able to continue my passion for Argentine Tango, dancing hours on end without pain! In 2005, I began my studies in Denver, CO, becoming a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner in 2009. I lead weekly Awareness through Movement (ATM) lessons and private Functional Integration (FI) lessons.

Feldenkrais is a wonderful compliment to the classes available at Journey Yoga.

Greg Karch

Heartfulness Meditation Trainer

I began my meditation practice while an undergraduate at the Univerisity of Michigan, in Ann Arbor, in 1970.  This started with Zazen for about 6 months and, for the next 27 years, practiced Transcendental Meditation.  During that time I attended a number of weekend and week-long retreats in Michigan, Utah, and Indiana. A significant TM retreat occurred in 1990, in Washington D.C.  

In 1997, I started practicing Heartfulness Meditation -- another form of meditation arising out of elements of the Vedic and yoga tradition.  

I became a trainer for Heartfulness in 2003. Since that time I've helped to put together a number of training events, one in Boulder Colorado and several in Indiana and Ohio. I've been to India on 8 occasions to participate in seminars and gatherings held at Heartfulness Centers.

I have helped with organization of the Arboretum Meditation walks over the last 3 years in Hays Arboretum.   From Mid-May to Mid-September these meditative walks originate in the Hays-Arboretum Road parking lot where participants gather before walking to the Woodland Chapel where we meditate before returning to the parking lot.   

I am married and have two children and four grandchildren. My wife Angela taught high school math at Centerville, Indiana High School for 20 years before retiring in 2010. My daughter is a Yoga instructor in Dallas, Georgia.

I received my Doctorate in Psychology from University of Utah 1980 and  became a Psychologist in Private Practice designation in 1983.

During my Career, I have worked as an Addictions Counselor and then Outpatient Psychologist at Dunn Center from 1978 to 1993. I consulted with Richmond State Hospital from 1987-1993 and 1997-2003. I have been a Psychologist in Private Practice since 1993, first as one of the original creators of Center for Creative Life Growth from 1993 through 2008 and then Living Pathways from 2008 until the present. I am currently moving into a phase of retirement.
